Do you know when you have a cold and blow your nose really hard and it feels like one eye “water up”?

Disgusting or funny fact?

End of the road?

Seems that the Danish Football Association finally had FIFA try to do something to get to the bottom of what happened this summer at the women’s World Cup of Soccer. FIFA now actively tried to find out why two Chinese guys were videotaping the Danish women’s soccer team’s tactics meeting the day before they met the China.

FIFA now states that they can’t get to the bottom of the case, since they have run into some problems with the Chinese authorities. The Chinese police won’t help FIFA with the names of the 2 video happy dudes, and FIFA can’t do anything about it as they have no jurisdictional power in China. Tough luck, or?

Only thing they have been told by the Chinese police is that it is not considered a criminal act, and therefore they “can’t” take the case further. Well, doh?

No one really knows what is up and down in the case the media, but one thing is sure: Some Chinese guys did tape the Danish team and “no one” knows who they were or who they were working for. Strange huh? Continue Reading »

Sometimes you just wonder how low China/KH are ready to go by copying stuff so they wont have to think themselves. And then sometimes you get a sudden clue. I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but sometimes I still do.

The missus just watched a Chinese movie called “Out of the Dark” by the godly instructor Jeffrey Lau. It was a comedy horror movie about ghosts. If you haven’t guessed it was extremely sucky (I know because I was sitting in a chair with my laptop playing a game in the same room). Somehow I couldn’t help but look up once and a while to pick up some kitsch.

There was a scene where some guy was chased to a dark room. At one point he stopped running to locate where the other guy chasing him was. From the dark behind him a hand bearing a knife slowly appeared and was put under his chin and he was forced to use a phone.

It you’re a movie buff this scene should ring a bell? No – then what about many beams of light passing through many holes in the sliding port in the same room? No? Then what if the attacker had round dark glasses and wore suspenders beneath a long dark coat? Then what about a last clue: The attacker’s name was ‘Leon’. Continue Reading »

Panoramio

Do you use Google Earth? I do.

Its cool discovering cities, places and sights that you didn’t know about, before you stumbled across them in GE.

The coolest thing about GE is that it works together with Panoramio. If you jump to their site and click ‘help’ you can download a tiny file.

And why is that cool you may ask?

Because it allows you to see and put pictures inside Google Earth. Not just pictures taken by professionals, but pictures by common people like well.me.

The pictures are placed on the map exactly where they are taken from. This gives a great idea of how things really looks like and you will not just get stunning sceneries.

Everyone can make an account there and post their pictures. The good folks at Panoramio then screens the pics for unwanted stuff and decide if it gives a good impression of the spot or not. If there already are plenty of pictures on the location, you may probably not strike lucky. So your best shot would be to find one location that you have been, that is not overrun by people and tourists. Posting is easy, but getting the pics accepted by Panoramio takes time. Answer: When the Chinese women starting 3 pair of pants.

Rrrr. Sexy…..

Actually this is the first year my wife hasn’t done that. Normally she would be wrapped like a early freaking Christmas gift this time of year. Somehow she bought my father’s theory that if you start; you can’t do with out the extra layers.

If you, on the other hand, try to do without them, you get used to it. Even though you may get cold legs, you won’t freeze as long as the rest of your body is kept warm.

I have practiced this all my life, so maybe that’s why she believe it. We’ll see in a month or so when the winter sets in for real.

Up and down

The frequent guests here (me only, I guess) may have noticed a lot of irregularity with the uptime of this blog lately.

Nothing I can do much about, since it is my host’s decision to limit the number of times an IP can access the site within a certain time. I’ve contacted them to hear what is wrong and what to expect in the future.

The problem is a DOS attack to the same IP on which my blog is located. It has happened a number of times and now again today. Somehow some idiot(s) decided that it would be cool. I just hope it’s not my site’s fault, or else I might have to look for another host. Not painting the devil on the wall or anything, but you never know in these days of the Net Nanny and I do write some stuff about China, don’t I?

According to my host, they would try and open up again later today, so I’ll just have to cross my fingers and see. I have to admit, that it had me consider jumping ship and use another host. There are other things I’m not that happy about (responding time and general speed of my site/pictures). But wait and see a few days. Continue Reading »

Random pictures

Just some random shots from the latest weeks.

Last Sunday, C and I borrowed my parent’s car and drove to the most northern part of Denmark called Skagen. It’s really a beach where 2 bays meet. It makes a funny effect where the waves from east and west clash together.

Skagen is both the area and a city located close by. It’s renowned for being somewhat of an artist’s colony in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Lately it has turned more to a vacation refuge for the richer families in Denmark which makes house prices skyrocket.

It was pretty windy and cold, but we still decided to try to get as far as we could to get to “grenen” (the branch). Even though it was cold we still managed.

Picture quality is not excellent. The humid windy weather gave both camera and ourselves a nice coating of salt and sand.

Tightening the knot

Freshly stolen from HaoHaoReport, I decided to change my old spam protection plugin Captcha, with a newer one.

Very fittingly the new one is called ReCaptcha. According to what I’ve read, this one should be better than the old one, as the spambots have learned to see through (read) the letters and numbers produced by Captcha.

Not that the original Captcha weren’t reliable while I used it (can’t remember a single comment of spam getting through, while I have used it), but better be on the safe side.

One cool thing about ReCaptcha (besides being more secure), is that it actually helps transforming words from old books, that is not readable by OCR-software, into text. Thats bloody clever. So everytime you post a comment here you may be helping out “translating” an old book. Continue Reading »

Toystory

If you are interested in China, maybe you’d like to check out these photos from a toy factory in China.

Actually this factory looks a lot better than the one covered by journalists about ½ year ago on Danish television. Great pictures, but not sure I envy the employees.

As expected Jehovah’s Witnesses turned up again about 1 week ago.

What the hell do I have to do to get these idiots to stop bothering me?

It didn’t help my temper when some JW fanboy commented on my old blog and tried to tell me that they (JW) respect the people who said “no thanks” and that maybe I should try doing that.

Bloody wanker.

I’m considering putting this picture on my door, but they might see through it now that we live in an apartment.

If you think it so easy…

From this years CCP meeting. Its allright, take a nap. You’ve had a good run.

Jail House Blog

Fell over this article (in Danish).

It describes how a recent survey by Reporters Without Borders (RWB) shows that 64 bloggers round the world are imprisoned for blogging unwanted stuff about their country/government.

According to RWB, 50 of these are (surprisingly?) located Chinese prisons.

China is a huge population which may explain why China achieves a massive number one this easy.

Again you can always put a question mark to how representative the survey really is. My bet is that the number is lower than the real deal. Not all governments in the line of fire would willingly give up this stuff to journalists, so I guess this is the best shot we got.

No matter how valid the numbers really are, the figures have to rain a bit on China’s parade. Especially now less than one year before the Olympics in Beijing. Continue Reading »

Bad back back

Somehow I managed to f### up my bag again.

It’s a bleedin’ pain to get up and down from chairs these days. Getting a good nights sleep is next to impossible. Sitting in the same way for too long is hellish too, so what to do?

A chiropractor would be cool, but the bill wouldn’t. So I have decided to ride the pain off in it’s own pace like I did the last time. It will be some tough weeks before it goes away if it’s the same deal. At least this time it is not as bad as before.

The positive side to the pain, is that I finally have discovered what caused it. It’s a mix of 2 things. The good old “have-no-room-in-the-bed” (series I & II), and my sucky office chair.

See, I bought a cool office chair about 4 years ago. It really owned. You sat comfortable in it and it was stable in all regards. Continue Reading »

…..

Seems that my life is more boring than usually. I wrecked my brain for something to write here.

“And this is what I get”: you ask.

Well, sadly yes.

It’s as is life is a bit dull after our adventure in China. Also there really isn’t much going on in this household lately. I’m busy at work, and C is busy at school and interning. Its same old – same old.

I have a few entries lined up in my brain, but just can’t seem to get the right angle on them for this blog. Guess this means they are not interesting.

Anyway – not dead, but just content with life at the moment I guess.

Coincidence?

I gotta give it to Google.

Many times have I witnessed them hit one of my interests with interesting links in the “Ads by Google” boxes you run into surfing blogs and news sites. But today I found this in the side of a Danish newspaper site (look at the ad in the left side and not the pretty girls, ok?):

In Danish I know, so if you can’t guess it yourself this is what it says:

Psychologist Aalborg
For…
Low self-esteem
Anxiety
Depression
Stress
Crisis

I do live in the city of Aalborg, but I have to wonder what makes me prone to get a time with a psychologist? Can’t remember any searches or articles I’ve read lately to give that result. So maybe someone outed me?

Silence

Nothing much happening lately.

Yup – as you guessed this means zero to blog about and no new entries. Just to let you know I haven’t died or anything.

Welcome (back/again?)…

…take of your shoes and make yourself comfortable.

This is my new domain. The clever reader may have found out that nothing has changed except the URL which now lacks a – in www.joe-cool.dk.

The whole homepage has been ported as an attempt to get rid of the illogical ban that was given to me by the Great FireWall. I tried my best to figure out what happened, but came out short.

I’m a lazy dude and therefore decided to chicken out and move the whole shebang to my other domain which is: www.joecool.dk. Sad but true.

I hope this ends the ridiculous ban.

If you can read this from China, please let me know by throwing a comment. I’d be happy to know that I solved the problem and not just did all this work for nothing.

Ps.: I love China <– That ought to give me a good start, eh?
