A view to the street from C’s sister’s apartment.

The other day I drove C’s sister and her kid to the airport. As we were heading for the car, I noticed that they brought 2 bags + a plastic bag with clothes as hand luggage. Only 2 are allowed.

As usually no one listened when I told this in advance.

We were 10 minutes after schedule, so C and her sister made a quick decision that they’d cram the goods into the other 2 bags when we came to the airport.

In the car I started moaning to C’s sister about “someone” never listening to me about these things. She replied with a smile: “I know; she’s very stubborn. She also didn’t listen to her family, when we said she shouldn’t go to Denmark to be with Peter”.

Oh well…. moving on then.

One of C’s uncles throwing a coin into a mini pagoda placed inside a monestary’s yard. It’s supposed to give good luck the higher you land a coin. At least luck for the photographer.

C and her nephew in the back, and some odd sunscreen hat wearing lady in front. I really wanted a shot with hat lady, so had to fake taking a picture of C. Seemed to work.

C decided I looked kinda cute (or idiotic – one of those, you decide) first morning on a hotel in Beijing. Fortunately she didn’t know how to turn on the flash on my camera, so the quality is blurry.

Is it me?

A headline that just invites to smartass replies, right? Caught your attention though, didn’t it?

We have C’s sister and her 8 year old boy living with us since mid December. They are going home in 14 days or so, and it has been great having them here overall. C’s sister is a great help with a newborn and all, and her kid seems to enjoy himself, except around homework time. Sometimes he does things I find peculiar at best though. I’m not sure whether its culture, personality or youth that makes him do those things, and I have no way of finding out.

For instance he has this habit of kissing our two boys on the forehead. A friendly gesture, I guess, but it rubs me the wrong way. Thinking about it, I wouldn’t mind if it was a girl/boy or boy/girl situation, but why is that different? He really likes our kids and wants to be close to them all the time (running in the way more than helping, but still). To me the kissing thing just bugs me. So why wouldn’t I mind if he was a girl doing the same? Maybe this is a pure Danish thing, and I shouldn’t be so uptight? It just feel odd to me and I have a hard time biting my lip.

When we were in China, we lived at one of C’s sister’s flats. She is quite an artist, and I found this in one of the guest rooms.

Yup – that me.

Turns out C mailed a picture of me wearing a Mao cap on our 2007 trip to her sister. C’s sister says it’s a in job process and will probably scold me for showing it off when it’s not done. I think it’s great already. She says she still need to finish details like eyebrows, eyes etc. She even ordered us to bring special paint brushes from Europe for that task.

Random shot

One morning we decided to go to the local market in the morning. At the entrance we found Cs sister with a cageful of puppies. C told me that her sister wanted to sell the puppies. While C chatted with her sister, my presence created a vortex that pulled nosy people close. 10 minutes later this girl came round and bought one.

C’s sister said she had been there all morning with no one showing any interest a all. So she dedicated the sale to me being there. Considering the attention I got, I’m not unlikely to agree.

Later C’s sister let us know, she regretted not to have kept us standing there for longer as she didn’t sell any more puppies that day.

Here’s a few more shots:

From the local market.

This guy made sure to get a good look of me from all angles. I decided I liked him too and shot him taking his last glare.

At the local market, a guy is stirring up some kind of Egg vegetable bread thingy. I looked so yummy I had to taste. 3 thumbs up from me.

C’s sister is visiting at the moment.

Everything is going great except Mark is insisting on calling her ‘Mormor’ (grandmother) instead of ‘Moster’ (auntie).

Women performing on a public square in Yilan. This woman looked particular joyous and I couldn’t help photographing her. This is one of the better shots.

Whaddyamean wrong lane?

This was not a single incident. You need guts to take taxis in China with your kid on your arm and no safety belts. This guy drove us against the traffic without any chance to cross back. When I shot the picture he had pulled a bit to the curve, but only because cars honked and waved at us. Pretty nerve wrecking when you’re Danish and not living in China. At least it was a motorcycle taxi so speed weren’t hysterical. Enough to get us killed though.

My fave dish tasted in China 2011. Hot and lots of meat.

This guy stood firm outside a restaurant window glaring at me for at least 1 minute, while we waited for our dishes. He only moved when I took my pocket cam and shot this picture. Pretty annoying to be such an attraction all the time, but luckily cameras seem to scare most laowai gazers off.
