The ongoing horror of learning Danish
Sep 30th, 2006 by Peter
After fortunately maintaining her mental health after finishing the first 4-5 Danish learning books, my wife borrowed 2 more.
I got to hand it to the authors. Never is a dull moment in Denmark. No small problems here, just major catastrophes and big life decisions to be made. Danish life seems to be one hell of a ride with life and death situations all the time. I am pretty sure my wife finds our everyday life kind of dull in comparison.
The newest additions to the horror row of borrowed learning books are:
Title: “One year in Paris”
About: A woman is under hard pressure from her boyfriend to quit work and move to Paris with him so he can fulfill his dream of becoming a great chef. After a long fight she finally cave and give up her otherwise good work leaving her with a happy boyfriend but a worried family and bad consciousness.
Could be worse, but still not what I would call soft reading for someone who basically just want to learn Danish.
Title: “Jan drives the bus”
About: A bus driver who is harassed and later assaulted by 2 young hoodlums during duty. The last half of the book is how he struggles to get on with life after having a serious psychic breakdown.
At least the front of the book won’t be giving you bad dreams, or?
I am not sure if I should steal the book from my wife and hide it? Or maybe I should just wait until she finishes it and accept that she won’t be taking the bus alone anymore.
It’s incredible … what ever happened to Curious George and the man i the yellow hat … That’s good reading !!!
Curious George got squashed under a car, and the man in the yellow hat spent 3 years of mourning before finally donating his yellow hat to Red Cross. Then he decided to end his misery using his scarf and a wooden beam in the ceiling.
